A Precipice Over The River Seine in #HDH #bloghop

Hump Day Hook is a weekly blog hop where participants post one paragraph from a published book or work in progress. This week let’s meet Laurent, my ancient French vampire aristocrat from Bound by Blood, a gay paranormal romance series set in modern-day NYC. I hope to be able to publish the first book of the series later in the year. This excerpt is from his backstory, as his former lover perceived him, and it may or may not make it into the first book as it is here.

It was a few minutes after three in the morning when Aric finally managed to unlock the door to his apartment and stumble inside. He leaned against the closed door, letting his eyes adjust to the darkness as he tried to figure out why he felt intoxicated. Well, there was that glass of wine Laurent had poured for him at dinner, and the scotch they had shared just before they kissed… That kiss. The feeling of kissing his fantasy made flesh wasn’t something he would ever forget; it had been intoxicating on its own, even without the added effect of the liquor. He still remembered the look in those blue eyes as he gazed into them; they had brought him to the very edge of a precipice, then left him to decide whether he wanted to play it safe and step back or take a chance and plunge over the edge. With only the slightest hesitation, he had chosen the latter, diving off the cliff to be swallowed within the waters of the river Seine that flowed through the Frenchman’s veins and into their embrace. The blond man had tasted of scotch but also of something else, something he couldn’t quite name; it had tasted exotic, powerful and faintly metallic, and the taste had lingered on his tongue for the rest of the evening.

I hope you enjoyed meeting Laurent. Next week we’ll meet another of the main characters in the series.
